Next Gen Wii Could be Smaller, Cheaper
Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Gaming
A few Wii 2 rumors are floating around: it might have HD and a new controller, and could arrive next year. Now in an interview with Popular Mechanics, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto says it may also be more compact and cost-efficient.
“While we don’t have any concrete plans for what we’ll be doing with hardware in the future, what I can say is that, my guess is that because we found this interface to be so interesting, I think it would be likely that we would try to make that same functionality perhaps more compact and perhaps even more cost-efficient.”
And as for things like DVD playback without a hack? A glimmer of hope:
“I think originally video-game systems were viewed as a toy, and they were something you played with…As time goes on, I think we’re going to see how the system of the video-game console and this interactive interface is going to gradually bleed in to other elements of, say, home electronics and daily life.”

No More Heroes 2 is last installment on Wii, next game on new Nintendo platform [Bwah?]
Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Gaming

Clarifying an earlier statement that No More Heroes 2 would be the franchises’ last installment on the Wii, creator Suda 51 told 1UP that the upcoming sequel is “the last iteration for this current platform.” Suda believes there will be a “Wii 2,” and he’d like to do another “game in the series on the next Nintendo platform.”
This is interesting not because of No More Heroes, but because there have been a lot of rumors circulating about a possible Wii 2 appearing around 2011. Nothing conclusive has been revealed, but as most leaks go in the gaming industry, there tends to be some truth to it. So I guess Nintendo is going to go ahead and release a new gaming system in the near future while Microsoft and Sony are attempting to lengthen their consoles’ life cycles by releasing their motion-sensing add-ons.

Intel and AMD to power PS4, Xbox 720, and WiiII?
Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Gaming, ZOMG

Rumors are spreading across the internet that Nvidia may get left out in the cold for the new generation of gaming consoles. Intel and AMD are set to split the spoils between them it looks like, leaving Nvidia (in all its glory and its ego) to play with the PC market, which, as we are constantly being reminded, is dying a slow and painful death.
It seems that there’s some bad blood between Sony and Nvidia, leading some insiders to say that the GPU contract has gone over to Intel. Yes, GPU which means Intel may be getting its hands dirty by entering the GPU card department to take on AMD and Nvidia head on. Kind of puts the lid back on Nvidia’s can of whoop-ass. Similarly, Microsoft may be switching to AMD GPUs for grudge-related reasons. The Wii2, or WII, or Wiii, or Twii, will likely be sporting AMD hardware since ATI has been Nintendo’s partner for quite a while now.
Add into this the fact that AMD is probably making rock-bottom bids right about now due to the fact that if they don’t make some money they’re going to be counting their stock’s value in pennies — on their hands. I’d certainly like to see a comeback like this.
