Wii Motion Plus Dated
Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Gaming
Nintendo fanboys wondering when the much anticipated Wii Motion would finally be released got the info they crave as Nintendo has announced the June 8, 2009 release of Wii Motion Plus. For those who don’t know, the new accessory takes the motion-sensing controls of the Wii to new levels of precision and performance by tracking players’ movements in finer detail and with greater accuracy than ever before (1:1 motion). Additionally, the Wii Motion Plus enhanced Wii Sports Resort will launch on July 26, offering a beach-themed follow-up to the rather popular Wii Sports game.
“Wii Motion Plus represents a new evolution in video game control. The variety of fun games in Wii Sports Resort show off its incredible precision,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Developers around the world are busy working on new ways to incorporate Wii MotionPlus controls into inventive experiences for consumers.”
Wii Sports Resort and Wii MotionPlus will be offered together at an MSRP of $49.99. For more information about this and other Wii features, visit Wii.com.

Cammie Dunaway of Nintendo is a bitch…among other things [DSi launch]
Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Gaming
Watch this interview with Nintendo’s Cammie Dunaway from the DSi launch last week and wait for about 2:20 where she gets kind of defensive and mean when asked why they didn’t go with the traditional white color for the new DSi. I love how the guy from IGN is just stunned and forgets to bring the mic back haha. Nintendo really wants her to be the new face of Nintendo America? Reggie Fils-Aime needs to do more PR. I can’t take her seriously at all. I don’t know about you, but she kind of gives me a Sarah Palin I-have-no-idea-what-I’m-talking-about vibe. Dunaway used to work for Yahoo, which to me seems like she really is out of her league with video games (another similarity with Palin…zing!). And what’s with the last few seconds of the video about E3: “All I can say is I hope we have something.” Haha are you serious right now? You’re supposed to get people excited, not lose hope Cammie. And that really was the last straw for me when I saw this video. Reading the comments on this video are hilarious too.
But seriously, Nintendo really needs to show some love to us hardcore gamers who feel so abandoned. I even sold my Wii after the first year to get a 360 because I lost interest in the games that were coming out. It’s really sad to see that there will be 2 Wii Sports games before 2 of any of Nintendo’s longtime franchises (Mario, Zelda, Metroid…and Star Fox hasn’t even come out yet!). That just goes to show you how Nintendo really doesn’t care at all about you or the games, just the money. I’m sure we can say that about a lot if not all of the companies, especially in this economy, but at least some are better at hiding it. Square Enix seems to be going in Nintendo’s direction as well with their Final Fantasy rereleases to the DS and stepping away from development. I could go on and on, but here’s something to think about on this Monday.

Capcom Reveals New ‘Resident Evil’ For Wii
Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Gaming
Yesterday, Capcom officially announced Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles for the Nintendo Wii. Yep the boys and girls at Capcom have not shunned the Wii completely with their games. I know some people weren’t a fan of the last RE light gun shooter that Capcom released on the Wii, but I think it’s a good idea to get players to appreciate the story a bit more. This is especially true for gamers like me who jumped into the series at RE4 and don’t really know the back story to fully understand all of RE5.
Technically this is the first trailer for Biohazard: The Darkside Chronicles, but it’s essentially the same thing minus the Japanese. At least there’s a little English in there for you all the non-Japanese people we have in our audience (I’m guessing that’s most of you).

Downloadable Content Saving The Traditional PS3/Xbox 360 Development Model?
Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Gaming
Variety’s Ben Fritz has written an excellent article on how downloadable content “is saving the PS3/360 development model.” Considering how development costs have sharply risen this generation, DLC has become an important and sometimes vital part of publisher’s and developer’s strategies. It’s not just about extending a gamer’s experience and keeping a franchise alive; DLC is a huge money maker.
“It’s hugely profitable, much moreso than the game itself, because the production costs are much lower. That’s true whether you’re talking about new in-game items (like Dead Space), a new area with missions (like Fable 2: Knothole Island) or even an entirely new story set in the same world (GTA IV: The Lost and Damned).”
There’s also the fact that DLC helps prevent consumers from trading in their games. When you add it all up, it makes a lot of sense why DLC is really taking off.
In general, gamers love the fact that DLC is plentiful and available. It offers a new or extended experience for the fraction of a new game’s cost.
The real fear is that publishers will soon get too carried away and start offering less of an experience in retail games because the profit margins are higher with DLC. One fear I personally have is the much rumored “buy the DLC to play the end of the game” architecture which many of said could happen for longer RPGs especially since some gamers tend to call it quits after they’ve spent 30 hours in and “enjoyed what the game has to offer.” That happened with me and Oblivion. I played the hell out of that game, but never even go close to finishing the story just because I got caught up in all the side quests and guild missions.

Wii Classic Controller Pro Announced
Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Gaming
Nintendo has unveiled a new Classic Controller on its Japanese Web site aptly dubbed the Classic Controller Pro (because you don’t have to come up with a creative name when you are owning the competition). The new controller is similar to the current Classic Controller, only now it comes equipped with DualShock-like grips, wireless functionality, and two additional shoulder buttons. So essentially we have a white DualShock-like controller with just enough difference not to get sued.
The controller has 8 multi-use buttons, Home and Start, Select, a directional pad and two analogue joysticks. The Pro also is a bit bigger.
The controller is set to hit the market in Japan sometime later this year, however no price point has been announced.
