Nexus One Touch Screen Glitch [Droid Does]

Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Tech

The Droid is on point and the Nexus One has a pretty significant axis-flipping problem. What gives? While you might THINK this could be a problem solved with an OTA update it isn’t looking like a likely outcome based on a Google Employee response by Diane Hackborn:

“Sorry I meant exactly what I said: this is how the touch screen hardware on the Nexus One works (which is essentially the same screen as on the G1 and myTouch).  The Droid has a sensor from a different manufacturer, with different behavior.  Other phones will likewise have different sensors.”

Nexus One Gets Reviewed [Engadget]

Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Tech

There’s a solid full review of the Nexus One over at Engadget for your reading pleasure.  Surprisingly, unlike other pre-release reviews of the Nexus One, the Engadget guys aren’t completely blown away by the device and are actually a little unsure if it’s significantly better than the Droid. Here are the highlights:

  • the Nexus One is nothing if not handsome. From its ultra-thin body to sleek, curved edges, the phone is absolutely lustworthy.
  • We actually had some real trouble with those four dedicated buttons.
  • The phone is fast, assuredly, but not so much of a leap up from the Droid that we felt it kept pace with the boost we were expecting.
  • We found colors on the Nexus One, particularly in the reds and oranges, to be severely blown-out and oversaturated
  • The AMOLED screen is difficult to see in sunlight (as is the case with many screens of this kind)
  • Not only has Google bumped up the speed of the camera app, but the 5 megapixel lens and flash took sharp, detailed images with none of the HTC-related issues we’ve seen on other models.
  • Well the real story is that Android 2.1 is in no way dramatically different than the iteration of the OS which is currently running on the Motorola Droid (2.0.1). Of the notable changes, many are cosmetic

The whole review is worth the read, at least to hold you over until the official announcement later today!

Nexus One animations video [Android 2.1]

Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Tech

You may think animated wallpapers are gimmicky, but you have to admit that they are pretty cool to show off to your friends (especially when it’s on a phone as seen on the Nexus One with Android 2.1 that should be hitting other Android phones soon).  There is a lot more going on in the video as well: music, weather, Market.

A YouTube clip of this same video was uploaded recently and taken down.  Luckily another video was reposted.  I hope you can still enjoy before it gets taken down:
