Assassin’s Creed Fan Film Is Great!

Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Gaming

Over the past several years, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has gathered quite the following.  TheDuoGroup has stepped up to deliver an amazing fan film titled “Initiation” that follows Altair (from AC 1) as he performs the final step before becoming a true assassin.

Here’s a description:

“Initiation” takes place before Altair has received the coveted title of “Hashshashin.” Like all young men, Altair aspired to leave his mark on the world. After years of grueling training, fear and anticipation course through his veins. Anticipation, because he understands that this is the last right of passage towards brotherhood. Fear, because he knows that though hundreds of apprentices have reached this point, few come back alive.

Keep in mind that it’s not an official Ubisoft video, so the story is not canon, but check out the video for yourself if you’re a fan of the franchise.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands to continue ‘Sands of Time’ series

Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Gaming

Ubisoft has just announced a new Prince of Persia — but it’s not a sequel to 2008’s polarizing adventure (if desired, add unhappy emoticons to sentence). Instead, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands will continue the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time trilogy series, complete with “many of the fan-favorite elements” and “new gameplay innovations that gamers have come to expect from the Prince of Persia brand.” Oh, and an accompanying film!

You can catch the game’s premiere trailer on Spike TV’s Video Game Awards on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 8 p.m. EST. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is scheduled for release on “consoles and handhelds” in May 2010.

Next Gen Wii Could be Smaller, Cheaper

Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Gaming

A few Wii 2 rumors are floating around: it might have HD and a new controller, and could arrive next year. Now in an interview with Popular Mechanics, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto says it may also be more compact and cost-efficient.

“While we don’t have any concrete plans for what we’ll be doing with hardware in the future, what I can say is that, my guess is that because we found this interface to be so interesting, I think it would be likely that we would try to make that same functionality perhaps more compact and perhaps even more cost-efficient.”

And as for things like DVD playback without a hack? A glimmer of hope:

“I think originally video-game systems were viewed as a toy, and they were something you played with…As time goes on, I think we’re going to see how the system of the video-game console and this interactive interface is going to gradually bleed in to other elements of, say, home electronics and daily life.”

Microsoft Considering Electronic Arts Takeover??

Posted by Mavrik | Filed under Gaming

Though it’s still just speculation at this point, it’s still rather stunning. The word floating around New York is that Microsoft is apparently interested in buying mega game publisher Electronic Arts, Reuters reports.

Now, this “unsubstantiated claim” will most likely remain so until for the time being. Nevertheless, EA’s stock saw a 4 percent boost today when word of this potentially industry-shattering deal started to spread. This deal would be so insanely massive and wide-reaching that I really can’t even comprehend what this would mean for the gaming world. I mean, EA games as Xbox exclusives? How crazy is that?!

Don’t get too worked up over this news though. There will be plenty of time for that if this thing actually ends up happening. And given the relationship between Microsoft and EA, specifically on the corporate side (John SchappertDon MattrickPeter Moore), it might not be as unlikely as some might think.
