This is a really interesting article on Wired.com that I highly recomment you check out. It discusses the cultural aspects and features that have lead to the iPhone selling so poorly in Japan that they are being offered for free. I don’t do it justice in this short summary so be sure to follow the link below, but a lot of it has to do with the fact that the technology and features are behind other phones in Japan in addition to the Japanese shunning Western brands (this is arguably the case for the Xbox 360’s poor sales in Japan too for you gamers out there).
